The story is quite interesting, and the first I've read on Prime that wasn't so full of typos and miss-spellings I read it happily.

I like this series. Unlike a lot of this genre, the story is not so dark as to send you into depression. What I find near unforgivable is when an author forgets the name of an important character. Ben's detective colleague Frank in book 1 got renamed Mike in book 2. Took me a while to figure that out. That just kicks you out of the story. Could have been a four star otherwise. Edit after finishing the story, I'd call it three and a half. There is one additional note to the author. It's not "your welcome". It's "you're welcome" as in "you are welcome". Lots of other misuses of possessive your where the contraction you're is required.
A fast-moving urban fantasy, with a young man discovering and developing his powers in modern-day Chicago. The world-building is not intricate, with werewolves, vampires and witches, but what I enjoyed is the lack of melodrama compared to a lot of similar books. There is suspense, combat, and relationship worries, but none of it causes excessive emotional distress. The character-building is not very deep, either, but the main character is sympathetic, with a good blend of talent, intelligence, and inexperience. The supporting characters, including police and supernatural members are more superficial, but fairly-well portrayed. There are some very bad events that are handled almost callously, but it's fine for a lightweight, fast adventure.
She’s seeing things already has a mage right there and says nothing about it. This author has a huge problem with how stupid he makes his characters. I’m loving the plot but I can’t handle that so I quite.
It really is a well done story if you can get past that. I had to jump to chapter 20 and missed most of the story but it was worth it just to find out what happened. I hope he gets over making his heroes so stupid soon or I’m going to have give up on his books!!!

One of the few books that I have read lately where everything clicks. Good plot, character development and engaging story.
I've read several of this author's books, (Most more than once.) This like the others is well written, mostly positive and interesting. The plot moves right along and it is an easy enjoyable read. I hope to see many more from this author.
